The life I desired

That must be the story of innumerable couples, and the pattern of lifeof life it offers has a homely grace. It reminds you of a placid rivulet, meandering smoohtly through green pastures and shaded by pleasant trees, till at last it falls into the vasty sea;but the sea is so calm,so silent,so infifferent, that you are troubled suddently by a vague uneasiness.Perhaps it is only by a kink in my nature, strong in me even in those days, that i felt in such an existence, the share of the great majority, something amiss.
I recognized its social value.I saw its ordered happiness, but a fever in my blood asked for a wilder course. There seemed to me something alarming in such easy delights. In my heart was desire to live more dangerously.
I was not unprepared for jagged rocks and treacherous, shoals it I could only have change-change and the exicitement of unforeseen.
Are you ready to unlock your productivity potential? As we enter the final quarter of , it’s time to look back on the year。 Have you accomplished at least 75% of the resolutions you made at the beginning of the year? If you haven’t, don’t worry; here are some tips on how to make your day the most productive。
1。You are in control
The first thing you need to keep in mind is that you are in control of your life。
“The bad news is time flies。 The good news is you’re the pilot。” – Michael Altshuler。
Mr。 Altshuler was right。 Time flies, and sometimes it flies so fast without you realizing it。 What you need to remember is that everything in your life is dictated by the choices you make。 So, begin each day by reminding yourself that you are in control and you decide what happens today。
Only you can decide whether or not it is going to be a productive day。
2。 Optimism is the key
Start your day with a positive mind。 Not all tasks that you have listed are easy。 This may include talking to your boss about a raise, tackling a complicated project — or even just going to the gym。 You may start thinking that your boss will say ‘No’ or about all the obstacles you are going to face on the project。 You might think going to the gym is too tiring and better not do it。
Abraham Lincoln said, “We can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses。”
We just have to look at things differently。 Perhaps your boss will consider that you have made valuable contributions to the team and agree that your request for a raise is justified。 Look at a complicated project as a challenge that will help you learn something。 Think of the benefits going to gym will give you。 (If nothing else, think of a special treat you can indulge in once you have done your gym session。) Learn to be optimistic and good things will follow。 On the other hand, if things didn’t go as expected, then always remember: When one door closes, another will open。 The lost opportunity may not be for you but you are up for something much better。
It is all about having the proper mindset。 Be positive。
3。 Procrastinate no more
As human beings, we think that we have all the time in the world to do the things we want and need to do。 This is the reason we love procrastinating。 We are always thinking that we have tomorrow to spare and we can just push to do things to another day。 But what if you don’t have tomorrow?
Remember this Bill Keane quote, masterfully used by Master Oogway (the wise tortoise in Kung Fu Panda): “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift。 That’s why they call it the present。”
Today is something to be thankful for, so better spend it wisely。 You’ll never know what is going to happen tomorrow。 Do the things that you have set today right at this moment。
Say “No” to procrastination and always say “Yes” to today。
4。 Ignore the perfectionist in you
“Prolific beats Perfect。” – Daniel Priestley
I know that we tend to be our harshest critics and often times will keep fiddling with a project even when it’s good enough。 While I am not advocating pushing out halfhearted work, I believe sometimes you have to accept good enough and move on。 Spending too much time obsessing over tiny details means that you are putting in an additional amount of time to tweak something only 1% of people will notice。 It also means you will get bogged down in the minute details and before you know it, the day is over。
Stop obsessing and start completing。 Don’t let the inner perfectionist monster get the better of you。 Work that is completed and pushed out on time is better than work that is perfect, but late。
If you bear these 4 things in mind every single day, you will find yourself able to look forward to each day with a better attitude to getting things done。 This will, in turn, lead you to getting closer and closer to your goals。
Say goodbye to the slums of yesterday…and hello to the most productive days of your life。
On our journey to find our true self and achieve our full potential, we sometimes get into hard times。 However, we must never lose hope for the future, which will help us to achieve personal growth。 The following ideas may help you to reach your goals for personal growth。
1。 Find challenges
If you don"t find any challenges to your life, you won’t have motivation and anxiety to development。 You should understand that staying too much in your comfort zone would just keep you staying where you are and therefore never improve。 So try to find new challenges that would further develop your strength and therefore achieve your peak performance。
2。 Always have a positive mind
You should develop a positive mind, as this would be useful when you face challenge along the way。 Through this type of mind, you will be able to continue with your life no matter how hard the situation is。 You should always find a reason to be happy, which will fuel you to go on further and further until you reach your destination。
3。 You are not alone
This is a very important factor。 Sometimes we are so stubborn about doing things on our own that we don"t ask others for help。 Generally speaking, doing things alone isn"t wrong, and, in fact, it"s even preferred to be independent。 However, there are really instances in our life that we need to ask others for help。 You shouldn"t regard it as being weak, and other people won"t think less of you if you do this。 We humans are communal individuals and we could achieve more in this world if we help one another。 So don"t hesitate to ask for help if you need it, and also lend a hand to others when they need you。
4。 Plan
If you want to achieve something, don"t be in a rush。 You need to make good preparations before action, that is, to plan your overall course of action in advance。 Create a goal that you are ready to bet your life on, and check it to see if it is really the goal you want to attain before you give it your all without second thoughts。 When you"re sure about it, plan the ways to achieve and to evaluate it if your process is effective while still along the way。 You can change your course of action while you still have time。 Make sure that your goals are specific, attainable and time limited。 In this way you can make sure you are not planning to fail, but to be successful in your search for personal growth。
5。 Consistency
Consistency is the key to securing self—improvement; however, being able to do this is really hard。 Still, you need to prepare to pay your dues if you want to reach your goal in life。

when i was in high school, I had to study all the time and hardly had spare time to do what i wanted to.Besides, I had to focus on my textbooks and doing exercise again and again. Therefore, I had little time to read magazines and novels and watch TV. what was worse, I couldn"t play with my friends a lot, which I couldn"t stand the most. In a word, all i did in high shool should be considered for the College Entrance Examination. dedecms.com
However, my college life is totally different from the life in high school.I can arrange my time freely. I spend most of my time reading in the library, where I can open my eyes and broaden my mind.In my free time, I also join some clubs, where i can make a lot of friends of different majors. My teachers in college are so kind and knowledgeable that they not only teach us knowledge but also how to be a person and how to get on with others. In addition, there are more opportunities for me to improve myself.
I believe college life is an important stage in my life. In college, i can learn how to learn by myself, how to get on with others, how to live independently.College provides me with a stage where i can show myself and be myself.

The Festival of Lanterns takes place at the end of the Chinese New Year Celebration, on the fifteenth day of the first moon. Lanterns have been part of Chinese life for centuries so it"s not surprising to see a festival of lanterns.
People usually hang lanterns in the gardens, outside the houses, and on the boats. These lanterns are signposts to guide guests and spirits of ancestors to the Lunar celebration. After a sumptuous fifteen-day feast, these lanterns light the way for the spirits back to the world beyond.
Silk, paper and plastic lanterns vary in shape and size and are usually multi-colored. Some are in the shapes of butterflies, birds, flowers, and boats. Other are shaped like dragon, fruit and animal symbols of that year. The most popular type of lantern is the “horse-racing” one, in which figures or animals rotate around the vertical axis of the lantern.
The special food for the Lantern Festival is Yuen Sin or Tong Yuen. These are round dumplings made with sticky rice flour. They can be filled and served as a sweet snack or made plain and cooked in a soup with vegetables, meat and dried shrimp. The round shape of the dumpling is a symbol of wholeness, completeness and unity.
The Lantern Festival is an occasion for families to get together and for everyone--young, old, rich and poor to have fun.
The word, friend, covers a wide range of meanings. It can be a nodding acquaintance, a comrade, a confidant, a partner, a playmate, an intimate colleague, etc.
Everyone needs friendship. No one can sail the ocean of life single-handed. We need help from, and also give help to, others. In modern society, people attach more importance to relations and connections. A man of charisma has many friends. His power lies in his ability to give.
As life is full of strife and conflict, we need friends to support and help us out of difficulties. Our friends give us warnings against danger. Our friends offer us advice with regard to how do deal with various situations. True friends share not only our joys but also our sorrows.
With friendship, life is happy and harmonious. Without friendship, life is sad and unfortunate. I have friends in high positions and friends in the rank and file. Some are rich and in power. Some are relatively poor and without power. Some are like myself, working as a teacher, reading and writing, content with a simple life. We all care for each other, love and help each other. We feel we are happiest when we chat and exchange ideas with one another. With my friends, I know what to treasure, what to tolerate and what to share.
I will never forget my old friends, and I"ll keep making new friends. I will not be cold and indifferent to my poor friends, and I will show concern for them, even if it is only a comforting word.

Nothing succeeds like confidence. When you are truly confident,it radiates from you like sunlight, and attracts success to you like a magnet.
It"s important to believe in yourself.Believe that you can do it under any circumstances, because if you believe you can, then you really will. The belief keeps you searching for answers, which means that pretty soon you will get them.
Confidence is more than an attitude. It comes from knowing exactly where you are going and exactly how you are going to get there. It comes from acting with integrity and confidence. It comes from a strong sense of purpose. It comes from a strong commitment to take responsibility, rather than just letting life happen.
One way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and to get a record of successful experiences behind you.
Confidence is compassionate and understanding. It is not arrogant. Arrogance is born out of fear and insecurity, while confidence comes from strength and integrity.Confidence is not just believing you can do it. Confidence is knowing you can do it.Know that you are capable of accomplish anything you want, and live your life with confidence.
Anything can be achieved through focused, determined effort and self-confidence.If your life is not what you want it to be,you have the power to change it,and you must make the changes on a moment by moment basis. Live your priorities. Live with your goals and your plan of action. Live each moment with your priorities in mind. Act with your own purpose, and you will have the life you want.

Every single person on the planet has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth might surprise you.
Though there is much to be concerned about, there is far, far more for which to be thankful. Though life’s goodness can at times be overshadowed, it is never outweighed.
For every single act that is senselessly destructive, there are thousands more small, quiet acts of love, kindness and compassion. For every person who seeks to hurt, there are many, many more who devote their lives to helping and to healing.
There is goodness to life that cannot be denied.
In the most magnificent vistas and in the smallest details, look closely, for that goodness always comes shining through.
There si no limit to the goodness of life. It grows more abundant with each new encounter. The more you experience and appreciate the goodness of life, the more there is to belived.
Even when the cold winds blow and the world seems to be cov ered in foggy shadows, the goodness of life lives on. Open your eyes, open your heart, and you will see that goodness is everywhere.

Time and time again when you feared it was gone forever you found that the goodness of life was really only a moment away. Around the next corner, inside every moment, the goodness of life is there to surprise and delight you.
Take a moment to let the goodness of life touch your spirit and calm your thoughts. Then, share your good fortune with another. For the goodness of life grows more and more magnificent each time it is given away.
Though the problems constantly scream for attention and the conflicts appear to rage ever stronger, the goodness of life grows stronger still, quietly, peacefully, with more purpose and meaning than ever before.
When I was seven years old, I would put my school book bag on both my shoulders and had it sit plumb in the middle of my back, as backpacks were made to do.
One morning, when it was so frigid outside you could barely muster getting out of bed, my older brother joined me at the bus stop, and told me I was wearing my backpack wrong. He grabbed it, tossed it over my right shoulder with both straps on the same side and said, “There, that’s better.”
Then he said, “You’re not pretty, so you have to try harder. OK?”
I stayed smiling because even at a young age, I understood the importance of pretending to not have emotions. In my household, it was a matter of survival. But what he said crushed me.
Soon thereafter, I started picking up on the signs one receives when they aren’t attractive. This was made more complicated because I had a lot of friends and people who, for the most part, liked me. I was good at sports. I had various musical talents and up until life completely fell apart at home, I was a good student. I was also a fighter so people didn’t dare make fun of me overtly, at least before growth spurts kicked in and the playing field was still even.
Mostly, I paid for not being conventionally attractive by being ignored or not included in “moments” – the many moments attractive people experience.
Many times, I walked into a room with all of my friends and witnessed them receiving compliments – everyone except me. It’s not that people look at you say, “My god, you’re incredibly ugly. Tell me, how do you not kill yourself?” It’s how you can stand next to an attractive person and the people around you, even the unattractive ones themselves, will say, “Wow, your friend is pretty. Look at her, have you ever seen a girl so pretty?”
It took me being observant and honest to see I didn’t belong. It took studying the aesthetics in photos taken by my friends and knowing something wasn’t quite right. It’s a lack of pride you know would be there if you were just prettier, or sexier. It’s that you simply know that no matter what you do, sans literal plastic surgery, you will never belong to a certain club.
But here is where I throw you a curve ball: my being unattractive hasn’t stopped me from living the other side’s life. Most people never figure out how to navigate this world I live in. I will just tell you I rejected the rules of the beautiful, and learned how to make them work for me.
I decided I would shoot out of my league. I made friends and dated people I shouldn’t be allowed to date. I stepped over the line. I surrounded myself with individuals who are more educated, prettier or smarter than me, even in the face of people saying, quite literally, “they are out of your league.”
I may not technically be the smartest or most beautiful person, but I run with those who are. I become by association, even a touch of such, even at a lower rank – beautiful. I buck the system.
To do so, yes, means you may be painfully aware of what you are and will never be. You will be defined by what you have the nerve to aim at being. In doing so, you will challenge and question what smart is. You will not be generic, or predictable. Attractive is only what we define it to be. Don’t pigeonhole yourself so quickly. Live the life you want to live – even if you didn’t win the genetic lottery.
“Joe, did you book your ticket yet?” I asked.
“No. I changed my mind. I’m not going to go.”
“What? You aren’t going to Australia? We’ve been planning this vacation for months!”
“Yeah, I don’t feel like it. We’ll go some other time.”
Over the coming weeks, I attempted to get my friend to reconsider, but to no avail. When Joe changed his mind, he changed his mind. Our trip to Australia – our big post-college adventure – was off. And none of my friends wanted to replace him. If I wanted to travel, it would have to be on my own.
It’s a pattern that has repeated itself over the years. While a few people have joined me along the way. But when it comes down to the wire, something always comes up, they’re suddenly too busy, or they get cold feet and change their mind.
It’s taught me that if I wait for others, I’ll never go anywhere.
But there are places I want to go, people to see, experiences to have, and food to try — and only so much time to accomplish it all.
So I refuse to wait – I won’t let others keep me from realizing my dreams.
It can bescary traveling alone – especially when you’ve never done it before. But, to me, growing old without experiencing everything you want from life is scarier.
If you’ve been putting off a trip because you’re waiting for someone to go with – stop. Just go. Don’t let others hold you back from your dreams. Trust me, along the way you’ll make plenty of friends – from other solo travelers who thought “Screw it, if I don’t go, I’ll never go” to locals interested in meeting new people. You’re never alone when you travel.
More than that, solo travel gives you ultimate freedom. You wake up and it’s just you – what you want, where you want, when you want. In that freedom and infinite space of possibility, you meet yourself. You hit the limits of what you like and don’t like. There’s no one to pull you in any one direction or override your reasons. Want sushi? Get sushi. Want to leave? Leave. Want to try bungee jumping? Go for it.
It’s sink or swim and you have to learn how to survive – who to trust, how to make friends, how to find your way around alone. That’s the greatest reward of solo travel – the personal growth. Each time you go away, you learn to become a little more independent, confident, and in tune with your emotions and desires.
Solo travel is not for everyone. Some people return home soon after departing, others cry for weeks before embracing it, and some just embrace it right away. But you’ll never learn that if you don’t travel once by yourself. Whether a weekend away, a two-week vacation or trip around the world, try it at least once.
Don’t wait for people or hold back from living your dreams. You could be waiting a long time until someone finally says “yes.” There’s only now and if you don’t go, you’ll regret it.
Because if I hadn’t stopped waiting, I’d still be in my cubicle, trying to convince Joe to go to Australia, and wondering if I’d ever get to see the world.
If the Dream Is Big Enough
A school was across the street from our home and I would often watch the kids from my window as they played basketball. One day, among the children a girl attracted me. She seemed so small as she muscled her way through the crowd of boys. Running circles around the other kids, she managed to shoot jump shots just over their heads and into the net with on one to stop her. Sometimes, I saw her play alone. She would practice dribbling and shooting over and over again, until dark.
One day I asked her why she practiced so much. Without hesitation, she said, “I want to go to college. The only way I can go is if I get a scholarship. If I were good enough, I would get a scholarship. I like basketball. My Daddy told me if the dream is big enough, the facts don"t count.” Then she smiled and ran towards the court to go on practice.
I watched her through junior high and into high school. Every week, she led her varsity team to victory. One day in her senior year, I saw her sitting in the grass, head cradled in her arms. I went over there and sat down beside her. Quietly I asked her what was wrong. “Oh, nothing,” She replied softly. “I am just too short.” The coach told her that at 5"5“she would probably never get to play for a top ranked college team — much less be offered a scholarship — so she should stop dreaming about college.
She was heartbroken and I felt my own throat tighten as I sensed her disappointment. I asked her if she had talked to her dad about it yet. She told me that her father said those coaches were wrong. They did not understand the power of a dream. He told her that if she really wanted to play for a good college, if she truly wanted a scholarship, that nothing could stop her except one thing — her own attitude. He told her again, ”If the dream is big enough, the facts don"t count.“
大学教育(美文摘抄 MeiWen.com.cn)。
The next year, as she and her team went to the Northern California Championship game, she was seen by a college recruiter, and was offered a full scholarship, to a NCAA women"s basketball team. She was going to college, which she had dreamed of and worked toward for all those years.
It"s true: If the dream is big enough, the facts don"t matter.
Permission to Fail
Each of us fails from time to time. If we are wise, we accept these failures as a necessary part of the learning process. But all too often as parents and teachers we deny this same right to our children. We tell them that failure is something to be ashamed of, that nothing but top performance will meet with our approval.
When I see a child subject to this kind of pressure, I think of Donnie, my youngest third-grader,he was a shy, nervous perfectionist. His fear of failure kept him from classroom games that other children played with joyous abandon. He seldom answered questions — he might be wrong. Written assignments, especially math, reduced him to nail-biting frustration. He seldom finished his work because he repeatedly checked with me to be sure he hadn"t made a mistake.
I tried my best to build his self-confidence. But nothing changed until midterm, when Mary Anne, a student teacher, was assigned to our classroom. She was young and pretty, and she loved children. My pupils, Donnie included, adored her. But even enthusiastic, loving Mary was baffled by this little boy who feared of making mistake.
Then one morning we were working math problems at the blackboard. Donnie had copied the problems with painstaking neatness and filled in answers for the first row. Pleased with his progress, I left the children with Mary Anne and went for art materials. When I returned, Donnie was in tears. He"d missed the third problem.
Mary looked at me in despair. Suddenly her face brightened. From the desk we shared, she got a canister of pencils.
”Look, Donnie,“ she said, kneeling beside him and gently lifting the tear-stained face from his arms. She placed the pencils on his desk.
”See these pencils, Donnie?“ she continued. ”They belong to Mrs. Lindstrom and me. See how the erasers are worn? That"s because we make mistakes too, lots of them. But we erase the mistakes and try again. That" what you must learn to do, too.“
She kissed him and stood up. ”Here,“ she said, ”I"ll leave one pencil to you so you"ll remember that everybody makes mistakes, even teachers." Donnie looked up with love in his eyes and just a glimmer of a smile.
The pencil became Donnie"s prize. That, together with Mary Anne"s frequent encouragement and unfailing praise for even Donnie"s small successes, gradually persuaded him that it"s all right to make mistakes — s long as you erase them and try again.
